Learn your way around Dominoes

Start Dominoes by looking at the playing area and its controls. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Use the example below to understand a decision. Check the rule that explains your first action. Look at what changes after your first action.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

A small practice goal

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Using the playing area

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. A new-round button replaces the current round.

Try this example

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Look for the relevant detail.

Keep this in mind

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. A different version of the game may use a different rule. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
